What is Cardio Tennis?

Cardio tennis ramps up the traditional court game with an aerobic twist.

There's no score in cardio tennis and very little coaching. the focus is on getting a workout and you keep moving for 60 minutes.

If you are a new participant, you will be required to complete a 'medical readiness questionnaire', whioch is a confirmation that you are fit and healthy to do activity. Before the class starts. you will be informed of the format of the session - ensure that you have the correct footwear and a racket (rackets can be borrowed). Newcomers will be asked to fill in a questionniare after the session, for the lead coaches learning process - this feedback can be used to make sessions better.

After a 10 minute warm-up segment to raise the pulse gradually and enjoy some exercises with a racket, participants switch to the cardio segment and may start with some easy volleys, one with a racket and one without to start, progressing to both with a racket.

Players rotate on and off the court quickly, and jog in place onnthe sidelines and run through agility ladders. Throughout the session low compression balls are used to help the ball travel slower through the air and enable more rallies to take place. The cool down phase may include some light hitting to lower the pulse and a fun group game, static stretching or some medicine ball exercises to strengthen back and abdominal muscles.

Up-tempo music with a pulsing beat is a great motivator for a cardio workout, helping to keep participants moving all the time, hitting in excess of 200-300 balls and burning lots of calories.

All sessions are currently one hour in duration and you can reserve your place a week in advance. Please book your place at least the day before as sessions may be cancelled due to insufficient numbers. If you are unable to make a session you must cancel your place at least 24 hours in advance or you will be charged at full price.

The classes are open to all abilities and more relaxed than a match, as alot of the time the rules of tennis do not apply. It doesn't matter if you have not played tennis before.

There's alot of fun / social atmosphere and as the onus is on moving all the time with the coach instructing less, it is certainly less stop-start.

so...... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
